MATTERS OF THE HEART:
dear family, friends and fans,
as you may or may not know, i had a heart attack on saturday, march 12th while in corbin, kentucky. i would like to thank all of you who have written and expressed your concerns. thanks to some wonderful medical help in both corbin and lexington, i am still among us and feel, if not great, good. i will be going back on the road and i have no intention of canceling any up-coming gigs. i will not bore you with any details other than to say i have quit smoking, cigarettes that is. as you know i have a c.d. out, YOU'RE GOING TO DIE ANYWAY, which is true but let me say that in my case, i would rather not do it now as i consider 62 to be rather young in this day and age.....
i would like to take a moment and thank the following for all the help they provided and the love they showed during this past ten days or so:
my lovely wife, rhonda, who jumped on a plane and came to and stayed by my side for the whole thing and then drove my skinny old ass home. she is the best there ever was.
my true friend, john biddle, who picked rhonda up in Indianapolis and drove her down to corbin. no-one could ever ask for a better friend.
the staff in icu at baptist regional medical center in corbin. you guys were great!
the staff in icu at st. joseph health care in lexington. thanks again!
dr. david keedy, who was nice enough to go in and repair my heart. hey doc, i still don't smoke. and won't ever again. i will see you in july.
jeff gilstrap in lexington. jeff put rhonda and i up for two days at the sheraton suites after i got out of the hospital. GO CATS!!!
tom sobol in louisville. tom is not only a business associate but a great friend and truly one of the honorable people of the world. he put rhonda and i up in louisville on our way home.
(this is not the first time these two men have come to my aid when i needed it. everyone should be so blessed as to have friends such as these.)
anne hazeltine in bloomington. thanks anne for the words of wisdom and encouragement.
andrew shaman and his lovely wife, andria in dayton. i know you would have been there in a new york minute.
chris bliss, not only a great comic (and the world's greatest juggler) but a friend beyond compare.
josh weinsten, writer, comic and always a friend in deed.
russ nagal here in vegas who gave me my first laugh over this.
a man named "rob" (i think, i was pretty drugged up at the time) who came to see me in the hospital in corbin. his son worked at the club and he knew i would be alone so he came up to see me. that is what Christ was talking about.
dr. aleta azimi in oakland. once again, a friend in deed.
dr. karyn o'brien and miss joan fisher in oakland. thank you for taking care of my wife.
shaeda moghaddam in oakland. you came through like a champ.
winston o'roarke and liz wolinski in las vegas for holding it together on the home front while we were gone.
my wife's brother, larry. one of the good guys in the world. thanks again, larry.
brad in bloomington who may be my biggest fan. sorry i couldn't make it brother but i will be back.
to my children, stefanie, mica, kimberly and hudson, who, as always, inspire me.
i could go on and on and i would still end up leaving someone out. for all of you who cared, my love, my thanks and i will do my best to give you my best every time i am on a stage, my ability to do comedy is God's gift to me and my comedy is my gift to you.
all of you named and un-named are in my heart.
